Accidental Landscapes™: Seascapes

Karen Eckmeier

So simple, yet so impressive! Layer and topstitch blue fabric strips with white lace to create a contemplative Seascape. Add rock shapes to form a dramatic rocky coastline with a lighthouse. Try out the endless variations and be pleasantly surprised with the results!

Finished Size: approx. 8” x 10” (size varies)

To view photos of this workshop go to pages 14-17 in the Accidental Landscapes book.

Fabric

·         Sky: ¼ yard “dramatic” fabric with clouds, or sun, or a hand-painted fabric. The sky sets the mood for the whole scene, so be sure you love it!

·         Sea/Ocean: 1/8 yard each of 5-7 blues gradated from light to dark + 1 white.

·         Rocks/Coastline: Scraps or 1/8 yard cuts of browns, grays, tans or blacks for rocks/ greens for coastline

·         Beach: 1/8 yard tan

·         Waves: 1 yard of 1” wide flat white lace (not gathered or ruffled)

·         Outer Border: selection of the color for your border fabric will depend on your scene. Bring an assortment, and hopefully one will work out perfectly.

Supplies

·         Sewing Machine (Featherweights are fine)

·         Rotary cutter, ruler, and mat

·         Iron and ironing pad (mini iron will work)

·         Fabric glue

·         Threads for topstitching – select threads to match fabrics or use variegated threads

·         Fabric scissors

·         Pins (I recommend the long flower head pins)

·         Ruler for rotary cutting borders
